Mmm this Chrysler 300... so ‘Murica it hurts.
Annual “Cornyval” parade in Helotes, TX this morning. Typical cheesy small town parade promoting local businesses and giving the high school marching band a spring event to do. In past years a local exotic car club has been here, but were absent this time. Still some cool, mostly classic metal rolling through. Here are the more interesting ones I snapped in between keeping my kids from running into the road to grab the candy all of the beauty pageant courts were throwing. Sorry for the weird white balance on some of these - I couldn’t really see my camera screen in the sun.
Shriners in a Cadillac.
1957 Chevy Bel Air.
Ford pickup, not sure of the year.
1921 Ford. 1986(?) Alfa Graduate following.
Shriner mini cars!
Not exactly sure what is going on here.
Old Olds.
This MG is my favorite from the day.
Check out the camber on this shopping cart! Also the fuel tank was a cylinder painted like an H-E-B original cola can which was pretty rad.
Batman and Catwoman in a Slingshot - I posted another photo of this earlier today.
Matte black Humvee.
1940's Dodge “Job Rated” pickup.
Neat wood-bodied Ford. Don’t know much about this one.
Woof!
C3 Corvette.
5 Slingshots in a row! Polaris dealer was sponsoring. One appeared to be an automatic - I don’t know if that is a factory option or a conversion.
Don’t worry, nobody was run over.
Ford hot rod - this was the most heavily customized one there.
Not exactly sure what this is... Chevy maybe?
Ford pickup - sometime around 1940.
Ford roadster. Probably early 1930's. Ford seemed to be the theme of the day among the classics. There were also a ton of C5 and C6 Corvettes, but I didn’t really think any were interesting enough to photograph.

...in which we see that rat rod is not a fresh idea...
Great pictures.
Nice shot there. Nice color, nice contrast. And nice composition and subject.

Thanks! There were a lot of throwaways that weren’t uploaded too. The natural light was cooperating pretty well today. Just grabbed my cheapo Nikon DX 35mm f/1.8 with a no-name circular polarizer. I've been really happy with it for a $200 lens.

Outside in good light a plastic fantastic lens can return great results. Small town parades are the best. Big parades are not the best. IMHO...

I agree. We have both close to me - the Battle of Flowers parade in downtown SA got something like 350,000 people this year. Public schools actually close. I'll watch on TV thank you very much.

WHY would you go to a parade in podunk- helotes tx???

I live in Helotes so I didn’t have to go far ¯\_()_/¯
TBH, it’s not really all that Podunk anymore. The city (SA, population 1.4 million) has expanded all the way out to Helotes, and Helotes itself is growing with it. These days it’s basically just generic suburb USA. The parade is now almost 2 hours long. My kids like all the candy that Miss This County and That Town throw and I like shutting parenting brain off for a few hours. Also, most years it's good for seeing a Lamborghini or two.

its a SMALL world. i work JUST the other side of Helotes, inside the loop. drive through it every day.
yeah, its starting to lose its small towniness, since walmart, and autozone moved in. there are about 6 subdivisions going in your area, out on hwy 16 and also there on 1560.
most weekends theres cool junk cruising the area, you just gotta keep an eye out.

No shit it is a small world! Are you native to the area? I know it’s hard to tell how people really talk from online posts, but I swear you used some Midwestern slang in a post the other day.
I’m in an older area - house built in 1979. But there are subdivisions popping up all around.
Yep a lot of people got rich in the oil boom and bought land in the Hill Country to the NW so lots of cool vehicles cruise through this end of town. There is a bright orange McLaren that I’ve seen Bandera road several times recently. Also an obnoxiously blue Bentley. Saw a brand new black 488 at the corner of 1560 the other day too. Looks way better in person than photos I’ve seen... Maybe it was just the color.
Ps - speaking of the oil boom/bust Oppo E90M3 is also in San Anonio and lost his oil field job (chemical engineer). If you know of anything and want to help another opponaut out give him a shout.

i live out here in the Medina Lake area. been here since i was a kid. 20+ years.
ive been seeing all sorts of cool junk cruising around in helotes, like that yellow 1950 short bus. some of those monster 4x4 trucks like over off of braun and 1560. there for a little bit there was a general lee, georgia plates and everything. and every so often i see a grey nissan gtr near the loop. things are quick.
sad thing, the oil field bust...... doesnt look like jobs will be picking up until the price of oil comes back up. i heard a guy(who knows his stuff) that oil prices have to be around 35-ish per barrel for oil companies to break even. with the price of oil still where its at..... it’ll be a while before things pick back up. the service side is still moving though.
this is the “current” daily driver if you see it wave......

I must have had your comments mixed up with someone else’s sorry!
I have a few friends with property on the lake - it’s great to see water in it again finally.
I’ve seen that GT-R! The guy in the blue Continental I mentioned before got into a back and forth with it on Bandera Rd in December. They carried on back and forth right past the Helotes PD station all the way to 1604. Eventually the GT-R found some open road and blew away the Bentley. It was nuts. I got a photo of the nonsense but it didn’t come out too well. I just saw what I think is the same Nissan last week actually.
Here’s the Bentley at Circle A and Bandera.
Then the GT-R rolled up and it was on...
I’ll keep an eye out for your Chevy!

RIGHT BEFORE the stupid lake had filled itself up, i plainly stated to a bunch of my friends “it will not come back, probably for the next ten years”......... it didnt stop raining for the next MONTH....... i’m glad the lake came back.
when i see the gtr, its at the loop. i got passed by one on the way to work one morning on park rd 37, i give it a good run, but i was driving the ‘71, and it doesnt corner. the gtr just walked off and left me through them. was fun to watch it just flat go.
and Helotes pd is forever running speed enforcement.......
if i happen to see your subaru, ill wave......
